You must have a four year university degree and at least one year of qualified, professional work experience to qualify for admission.

Courses start in the winter semester in early October.

Application Process

Each year, 30 students can be admitted to the Master of Science in Epidemiology. Course work starts in October (winter semester) and attendance is required.  

  • Early Admission: In order to give you enough time to prepare and plan for the academic experience we offer an early admissions process with a deadline of May 15th of each year. Applications received by May 15th are processed immediately and notice of admission is provided in early June.
  • Applications reveiced after May 15th are processed in the order in which they are recieved and students are admitted as long as places are available. Applications are possible until October 1st of each year.

Requirements for Admission

1. University Degree:
In order to ensure a high level of scientific quality in the continuing Master's programs, we require the completion of a university degree and at least one year of qualified, professional work experience. The university degree must encompass a minimum of 240 ECTS or equivalent (four years of regular course work). Since the different academic backgrounds of our students and their respective work experience greatly shape the quality of the discussions in our seminars, we look forward to applications from the social sciences, humanities, natural sciences and medicine. 

2. Professional Experience:
The program is aimed at students with professional experience (mid-career professionals). At least one year of qualified work experience is required for admission.

3. Knowledge of English:
Courses are taught in English. Please provide proof of English language proficiency at B2 CEFR standard (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), i.e.

  • TOEFL 87-109
  • IELTS levels 5-6
  • Previous university or high school degree from an English language institution
  • Professional experience abroad
  • List of publications

4. Mathematical knowledge:

The program offers advanced students an interdisciplinary modern educational environment to focus their methodological knowledge in the fields of epidemiology, biostatistics, medical informatics and health data science, expanding their competencies in research. Students are encouraged to have a basic mathematical aptitude and good knowledge of statistics. Students should be willing and interested in learning and using statistical software to analyse health data.
 

Tuition and Fees

The Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin charges tuition (module fee) and an enrollment fee per semester for participation in the continuing master's courses at the Berlin School of Public Health.

The tuition (module fee) for the entire program, including supervision and evaluation of the Master's thesis, is €10,200. In addition, the regular enrollment fees (matriculation fees) of the Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin are due for every semester that you are enrolled as a student.

Full-time students pay €5.100 in September at the time of enrollment and €5.100 in March before beginning the second semester for a total tuition of €10.200. Part-time students pay €2.550 in September at the time of enrollment, €2.550 in March before beginning the second semester, €2.550 in September before beginning the third semester and €2.550 in March before beginning the fourth semester. In addition, university enrollment fees are due for each semester enrolled and must be paid per semester (about €300). Should you take longer to complete the program, no further module fees are due. Enrolled students recieve a bill for each payment due. 

As a financial aid, the Federal Government offers students in advanced education low-interest loans in accordance with the funding regulations of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF):

Furthermore, since January 1st  2003 there has been the possibility of receiving an education voucher from the Employment Agency, provided that all funding conditions have been met. However, it must first be established in each individual case how high and to what extent the educational need exists. More information is available at www.arbeitsagentur.de
