Inhalt
Die Immatrikulation erfolgt an der Charité und das strukturierte Programm führt gemäß der Promotionsstudienordnung Global Health in Verbindung mit der Promotionsordnung der Charité zu dem Abschluss PhD in Global Health. Die Promotionsleistungen sind ein Promotionsstudium im Umfang von 30 ECTS und eine eigenständige Forschungsarbeit (schriftliche Dissertation) im Umfang von 150 ECTS, die in der Regel in drei Jahren absolviert werden. Den Abschluss bildet eine mündliche Disputation vor dem Prüfungsausschuss.
Der thematische Fokus des Promotionsstudiengangs liegt unter anderem auf den gesundheitsrelevanten nachhaltigen Entwicklungszielen (SDGs), die aus konzeptuell und methodisch innovativen Blickwinkeln bearbeitet werden. Die zu bearbeitenden Themen beinhalten beispielsweise übertragbare und nicht übertragbare Krankheiten, die Prävention und Bekämpfung von Krankheitsausbrüchen, Global Health Security, Migration und Gesundheit, Universal Health Coverage, die Rolle von Klima und Umwelt als natürliche Grundlagen der Gesundheit, One Health, Governance und Gesundheitspolitik, Gesundheitsökonomie, Partizipation sowie Digitalisierung im Gesundheitswesen. Der Promotionsstudiengang untersucht seine Forschungsthemen mittels eines interdisziplinären Ansatzes sowie unter Einbeziehung unterschiedlicher methodischer und konzeptioneller Herangehensweisen; in gemeinsamen Denkräumen und im engen Austausch zwischen Lehrenden, Betreuenden und Promovierenden unterstützt er die kritische Auseinandersetzung mit Maßnahmen und institutionellen bzw. politischen Konstellationen im Bereich Global Health.
Studienablauf
Der PhD Global Health soll Forschende aus aller Welt zusammen bringen und bietet daher flexible Studienmodelle. Promovierende können sich in Berlin niederlassen, oder in ihrer Heimat bleiben und für die Teilnahme am Curriculum zeitlich befristete Forschungsaufenthalte in Berlin einlegen.
Sandwich PhD
- Bei der Sandwich-Promotion findet die Forschung wohnortnah statt. Die Module und der Kontakt zur Charité finden in mehreren zeitlich befristeten Forschungsaufenthalten in Berlin statt.
- Sandwich-Promotionen sind dann von Vorteil, wenn die Hochschulstrukturen vor Ort über die Vernetzung mit der Berliner Forschungslandschaft ergänzt und gestärkt werden können.
- Dieser Weg ist für Studierende aus Nicht-EU-Ländern oft günstiger, da er die Visabestimmungen, die Reisekosten und die Gesamtkosten reduziert.

- Die Promotion am Standort Berlin bindet Forschende in das Global Health Netzwerk vor Ort ein.
- Auslandsaufenthalte für Forschung, zur Kongressteilnahme und zur Vernetzung sind ausdrücklich erwünscht.
What is global Health?
Global Health is a dynamic and interdisciplinary field dedicated to addressing health challenges on a global scale. Focused on promoting well-being, preventing diseases, and improving healthcare access for all, it transcends national borders to tackle complex health issues that affect diverse populations worldwide. Global Health professionals work collaboratively to understand and address the social, economic, and environmental determinants of health, striving to create equitable and sustainable solutions.
From infectious diseases to non-communicable diseases, Global Health emphasizes the importance of international cooperation, research, and policy development to build resilient healthcare systems and foster a healthier future for communities across the globe.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) guide the major themes of the PhD Global Health program. Program participants are encouraged to approach their research from conceptually and methodologically innovative perspectives. The topics to be addressed include communicable and non-communicable diseases, pandemic intelligence, monitoring, surveillance and prevention, migration and health, universal health coverage, the role of climate and environment as determinants of health, One Health, governance and health policy, as well as digitalization and health. The PhD Global Health aims to approach research from an interdisciplinary perspective, incorporating a variety of methodological and conceptual approaches. Close exchanges between faculty, supervisors and doctoral candidates encourage critical thinking and innovation in Global Health.
